CYTOGENETICS (Karyotype Analysis)
Chromosomes are important structures formed by the DNA molecule carrying our hereditary code during cell division. Chromosome analysis, also known as karyotype analysis, is the only direct visual examination among genetic tests. It allows the detection of changes of 10 million bases and above in resolution. Karyotype analysis is one of the first tests to be performed in the presence of infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss and abnormal USG findings during pregnancy. Today, nearly 600 genetic diseases can be diagnosed with this analysis. It is the most basic analysis in diagnosis and prognosis prediction in hematological cancers. In the prenatal period, studies can be performed from fetal cells obtained by chorionic villus biopsy, amniocentesis and cordocentesis.
